Sometimes it takes getting out of your daily routine to stimulate your creative juices. As an author, I know that sitting down at your desk can be tedious, especially if you’re not sure what to write about.
I used to write on a daily basis during my 15-month period serving in Lesotho, the “Mountain Kingdom” in Southern Africa. I had stories to share about my village, and the orphans and vulnerable children I taught. My life was so different from the U.S.
Creativity doesn’t just happen, you sometimes have to make it happen. One of the ways that works for me is to travel; see new places, people and lifestyles. Research shows that travel enhances your creativity.
# 3. Travel Enhances Your Creativity
“Foreign experiences increase both cognitive flexibility and depth and integrativeness of thought, the ability to make deep connections between disparate forms,”explains Adam Galinsky, a professor at Columbia Business School who has authored a number of studies that investigate the concrete links between creativity and international travel.
Travel alone isn’t enough, however. Galinsky has found that international travelers have to be purposeful about engaging.
So with that in mind, if you want to stimulate your creativity, why not join our salon on a Rhine River Cruise with award-winning author Nancy Klann-Moren and me, Sonia Marsh, as your tour leader. At first we decided to focus on writers, but then Nancy came up with a brilliant idea to include all creative people, hence:
A Salon for all types of creative artists.
“We’re inviting Writers, Painters, Photographers, Poets, Performance Artists, Crafters, Ceramicists, and all creative souls. This the cruise for you.”
